Round Table Racing Director Bruce Slade announced today that his new company has completed the purchase of 2013 Melbourne Cup bound Tres Blue.

A Northern Hemisphere bred three-year-old, Tres Blue is currently twelfth in the order of entry and guaranteed a start in the Melbourne Spring feature in which he will carry 51kg for his new trainer Gai Waterhouse.

Purchased in a deal put together by James Harron Bloodstock, the son of Anabaa Blue has won his latest two starts in France. Both races were at Group level over 2500m and at weight for age, beating strong competition including the world’s highest rated racehorse Cirrus Des Aigles currently in training, Very Nice Name (second to Orfevre last start) and Penglai Pavilion (winner of the the Prix Turenne at his latest start).

The drop back to handicap conditions in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup carrying 51kg makes him a leading chance according to Bruce Slade:

“He has winning weight for age form around the leading chances in Europe’s upcoming premier event, the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, and in the past couple of weeks the form around him has just got stronger and stronger. He is an elite class racehorse who is set to carry a very light weight in this year’s Melbourne Cup. That has to make him a leading chance.”

Slade went on to confirm that Tres Blue would follow the same path as Fiorente and have his first Australian start in the ‘race that stops a nation’:

“Just like Fiorente, Tres Blue will be quarantined in Newmarket before arriving in Australia on 19 October to finish off his final Cup preparations at Werribee racecourse under the care of Gai Waterhouse”.

Tres Blue is the very first purchase by Slade’s Round Table Racing and it appears the first horse to wear his colours will be a starter in Australia’s most famous race.

“He is the perfect horse to launch Round Table Racing. I have always had the dream of one day bringing success and enjoyment to people through thoroughbred racing, my greatest passion. My time with Gai has taught me that Group 1 results come through sourcing the highest quality bloodstock and managing them carefully. In Tres Blue I believe we have the first box ticked, the rest is now up to our team”.

Slade established Round Table Racing earlier this month with the blessing of Gai Waterhouse to whom he was previously bloodstock director for three years.
