New Zealand bred and raced three-year-old filly Role Model has been secured by Round Table Racing and will have her first start for new trainer Gai Waterhouse in Saturday’s New Zealand Bloodstock Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton.

Bred and raced by Gerry Harvey’s NZ Thoroughbred Holdings, Role Model has shown good ability on the racetrack in a short space of time. She broke her maiden on debut as a two-year-old and followed that up with a Group 2 placing in the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes at just her second start. This season as a 3yo she has continued to improve, her last start second in the Group 2 Wellington Guineas (1500m) against the colts was a career best performance.

Round Table Racing’s Director Bruce Slade was naturally very pleased to secure the filly, “she was identified by our team as a very progressive filly who is only lightly raced at this stage. She will appreciate the 1600m on Saturday at Riccarton but anything she does in the Group 1 event will be a bonus. Her main aim is the Group 1 ATC Oaks in Sydney in the autumn”.

A win on Saturday would be extra special for Slade who grew up in Christchurch. “I lived on Riccarton racecourse growing up. It is where my passion for racing started and I cannot wait to get back there and catch up with many familiar faces”, Slade explained.

Role Model is a daughter of Bel Danoro, Gerry Harvey’s Group 3 winning son of Danehill. Her dam Super Nanny (Reenact) is a half-sister to Group2 Pago Pago Stakes winner Siderius and descends from the great Eight Carat family (Octagonal, Kaapstad, Mouwad etc).
